ANODIZING // PRACTICAL GUIDE
Anodizing Process Consistency: Variables Worth Recording
Anodizing results are sensitive to substrate and process conditions. A useful shop record connects the incoming material, preparation, bath state and finishing steps to the final result.
Practical workflow
- Record alloy and part history when known; different alloys can respond differently.
- Standardize cleaning, etching or desmutting steps appropriate to the process.
- Track bath temperature and other chemistry variables required by the process specification.
- Record electrical parameters and actual processing time.
- Keep rinse stages controlled to reduce carryover between process tanks.
- For dyed work, document dye identity, bath condition, time and temperature.
- Record sealing method and final inspection observations.
Use the guide as a starting point
Machine, material, software and manufacturer requirements vary. Keep a controlled test record and use the current documentation for your exact equipment and process.
