Cerakote Preparation and Process Control: Build a Repeatable Workflow

Repeatable coating results depend heavily on preparation and contamination control. Product-specific technical data and safety requirements should govern the actual coating and cure process.

Practical workflow

  1. Document the incoming part condition and identify material, assemblies and areas that must not be coated.
  2. Disassemble as required for the job and protect critical interfaces.
  3. Remove oils and contamination using processes compatible with the substrate and coating system.
  4. Prepare the surface to the coating manufacturer's specification.
  5. Handle prepared parts in a way that minimizes recontamination.
  6. Record coating system, batch information, preparation notes and cure record for repeat work.
  7. Use the current manufacturer's technical data sheet and safety data sheet for product-specific application and cure requirements.

Use the guide as a starting point

Machine, material, software and manufacturer requirements vary. Keep a controlled test record and use the current documentation for your exact equipment and process.
