LightBurn Setup & Troubleshooting: A Practical Baseline Workflow

Set up a known-good LightBurn baseline, isolate software from machine problems, verify layers and output settings, and troubleshoot one variable at a time.

The Jefre Rule: Keep a known-good baseline. Change one variable at a time. Inspect evidence. Record what worked.

Start with the baseline

Confirm the correct device profile, bed size, origin convention, units, connection, focus method, and a simple test shape before changing advanced settings.

Isolate the variables

Use a simple rectangle or circle to separate connection and machine behavior from artwork problems. If the simple file works, move upstream to layers, geometry, and job settings.

Verify the workflow

Verify the intended layer is enabled for output and that speed, power, passes, and operation type are appropriate for the material and machine.

Change one thing at a time

Change one variable at a time and record the result. Random changes make it difficult to identify the cause or reproduce a successful process.

Record what works

Keep labeled material tests with machine, lens, focus, material, thickness, settings, passes, air assist, and observed result.
