Cerakote Preparation & Contamination Control: The Foundation of a Good Finish

Practical preparation and contamination-control guidance for consistent coating work, from clean handling through application, curing, and inspection.

The Jefre Rule: Keep a known-good baseline. Change one variable at a time. Inspect evidence. Record what worked.

Start with the baseline

Follow the coating manufacturer's current technical data and application guidance for the specific product, substrate, and cure method.

Isolate the variables

Control oil, silicone, dirty compressed air, residue, bare-hand contact, contaminated media, and fixtures. Separate clean and dirty work after final preparation.

Verify the workflow

Use the specified media and preparation method for the coating system and substrate, and keep blasting consistent.

Change one thing at a time

Plan masking, plugs, hooks, part orientation, spray sequence, and curing arrangement before mixing coating.

Record what works

Record product, lot where useful, mix ratio, reducer if applicable, gun/setup, application notes, cure schedule, and inspection result so successful work is repeatable.
