PRACTICAL GUIDE // GETJEFRE

CAD to CAM Workflow: From Clean Geometry to a Repeatable Job

Move from clean CAD geometry to controlled CAM setup, toolpaths, simulation, verification, and repeatable manufacturing output.

The Jefre Rule: Keep a known-good baseline. Change one variable at a time. Inspect evidence. Record what worked.

Start with the baseline

Design with stock, datums, tool access, tolerances, workholding, and manufacturing sequence in mind.

Isolate the variables

Fully define critical dimensions and constraints, remove duplicate geometry, and use intentional radii and clearances.

Verify the workflow

Set the work coordinate system to match how the part will actually be located on the machine. Confirm origin, axes, stock, and setup orientation.

Change one thing at a time

Build toolpaths in a logical sequence and verify tool selection, feeds, speeds, stepdowns, stepovers, entry moves, clearances, and retracts.

Record what works

Simulate for collisions, missed features, unsafe motion, excess stock, and workholding interference. Then use the correct post processor and review output before machining.
